Editorial Standards
Records Management University exists to make records management understandable and to be a resource people can trust. These standards describe how we research, write, review, and correct our content — and how we handle our relationship with our host, Feith Systems.
How we source
Our articles, questions, and glossary entries are grounded in primary sources from government agencies and non-profit professional organizations — such as the National Archives (NARA), the Information Security Oversight Office, ISO, ARMA International, AIIM, and the Society of American Archivists. We cite those sources so you can verify what we say and go deeper. As a matter of policy, we do not cite or link to commercial records-management vendors — including our host's competitors.
How we write
Content is written to inform, not to sell. The educational material stands on its own. Where a topic genuinely connects to our host's areas of expertise, we say so only in clearly labelled "Sponsored insight" notes that are visually and editorially separate from the article — never woven into the explanation.
Accuracy, review, and updates
We aim to be accurate and current. Entries are checked against authoritative references, and we revise them as laws, standards, and official guidance change. Article pages show a publication or updated date so you can see how current the content is. Records management spans many jurisdictions and sectors, so we describe general principles and point you to primary sources — our content is educational and is not legal advice.
Corrections
If you spot an error, we want to fix it. Corrections to substantive errors are made promptly, and the page's date is updated. You can reach the editorial team via Feith Systems' contact page.
Citing our content
Every article and Q&A page includes a "How to cite this page" block with ready-made APA and MLA citations, so students, researchers, and practitioners can reference Records Management University accurately.
Sponsorship and independence
Records Management University is hosted and underwritten by Feith Systems, which keeps it free. Sponsorship supports the resource; it does not dictate the facts. We disclose the relationship plainly — on every page, in the footer, on our About page, and in labelled sponsor notes — so you always know where the content comes from. Read more about who writes our content on the authors page.
